Empowering Women in Remote Communities: A Step Toward Lasting Change

Women empowerment is a vital pillar for achieving inclusive development and lasting social change in Liberia. When women are given equal access to education, resources, and livelihood opportunities, they become powerful agents of progress, strengthening their families, boosting local economies, and leading efforts in health, education, and environmental sustainability. Empowerment means more than economic independence; it involves giving women a voice in decision-making, the confidence to lead, and the ability to shape their futures without any fear or limitations.

In many communities, empowered women are breaking barriers, starting businesses, leading community groups, and advocating for their rights. Through training, mentorship, and access to financial tools, women can overcome systemic challenges and uplift others along the way. At its core, women empowerment is not just women’s issue, it’s a community effort that benefits everyone.

At TuMi’s Care Initiative (TCI), we believe that when women are empowered, the entire communities thrive. We’re excited to share highlights from a recent initiative where we provided much-needed support to a dynamic women’s group in Zinnah Hill Community. We are proud to share a recent milestone in our ongoing efforts to uplift and empower women in local communities.

On April 5, 2025, TuMi’s Care Initiative provided targeted support to the Zinnah Hill Women’s Association, a women’s group that supports women with seed funds for business and other related assistance. Since 2024, TuMi’s Care Initiative has supported over 20 widows with seed funding that has empowered these women to care for individual expenses, including food and school fees for their children. Our support included seed livelihood capacity development and funding, enabling representatives from this women’s group to strengthen their skills and generate sustainable income for their families. During a brief ceremony held in the community, the women expressed deep appreciation for our support. Many shared stories of how this opportunity would help improve their livelihoods and bring hope to their households.

Zinnah Hill Women’s Group strengthens women’s participation in community activities through peer-group discussions.

According to Grace Mansial, a member of the group, “This support has motivated us to work harder. We now have what we need to move forward and support other women.”. We remain committed to supporting grassroots women-led initiatives and promoting gender equality across our programs. We thank our donors and partners for their continued support and look forward to expanding our reach to more women in need.
