TuMi’s Care Initiative Collaborated with The Liberian Ministry of Gender and Partners to Celebrate World Menstrual Hygiene Day

In commemoration of World Menstrual Hygiene Day on May 28, 2025, in Monrovia, Liberia, TuMi’s Care Initiative (TCI) in partnership with the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, and partners, hosted a large and impactful event aimed at promoting menstrual hygiene awareness and empowerment among young women and girls.

The program brought together students and young women from across Monrovia and created a safe space to discuss the importance of menstrual health, break taboos, and build practical skills. Participants were educated on best practices in menstrual hygiene and trained in the production of reusable sanitary pads, which empowered them with sustainable solutions to menstrual care.

A key highlight of the event was TCI’s continued advocacy for inclusion, particularly for deaf students. Through thoughtful planning and collaboration, TCI ensured that deaf participants were actively engaged and fully included in every part of the program. In a moving statement during the event, TCI emphasized the importance of making national health and development initiatives inclusive of persons with disabilities, especially young women and girls who are often marginalized in such discussions.

“We must ensure that all voices are heard, especially those who have been historically left out,” said a representative from TuMi’s Care Initiative. “The participation of deaf students today is not just symbolic, it is a step toward a truly inclusive Liberia where no one is left behind.”

The celebration of World Menstrual Hygiene Day is part of TCI’s broader commitment to gender equity, youth empowerment, and inclusive health education.
